Getting started with Beam: Paying Contributions

Beam is an integrated solution within your software provider’s payroll platform that allows you to submit super contributions to the ATO. How you pay the contributions is subject to what’s available on your payroll software.

Paying contributions with Direct Debit

After a successful submission, we’ll direct debits from your account your account:

  • If you submit your contribution before 3.30pm AEST on a business day, Beam will debit the nominated account on that day.
  • If you submit your contribution on or after 3.30pm AEST on a business day, or on a non-business day, Beam will debit the nominated account on the next business day.

If your Direct Debit payment fails, a notification is sent from your payroll software. A new payment will need to be received within 5 days (from contribution submitted date) or the super contribution payment will be automatically cancelled. Please note that no matter the payment method, if no payment is received successfully within 10 business days, then your contribution will be automatically cancelled, and a new super contribution payment will need to be submitted.

If your direct debit payment has failed and you need further assistance, please contact your payroll support team or your financial institution. Some of our software partners may allow alternative payment methods (BPAY or EFT) to be made.

Paying contributions using EFT

Once your contribution has been submitted, you will need to make your payment on the same day of submission, as per the Beam PDS. Beam will provide you with a unique Payment Reference Number (PRN). Please note this PRN consists of 18 digits. It’s important you only use the PRN when making payment to stop delays or errors occurring. If you don’t use the correct PRN, Beam’s automated reconciliation process won’t be able to match your payment with super contribution payment you’ve made. You’ll get a notification from Beam telling you that a contribution has been received but the super contribution payment hasn’t been received.

What happens if I use the incorrect PRN?

If you have used the incorrect PRN when making payment for your contribution, Beam’s automated reconciliation process cannot match your payment with your submitted contribution.

If payment is made within the required timeframe

If payment is made within the required timeframe

If a super contribution payment has been made within the required timeframe of when you submitted your super contribution payment, you can contact Beam Support via the Contact Us page and we can check if the payment can be matched manually.

After 10 business days from submission

After 10 business days from submission

If a matching payment hasn’t been received after 10 business days from the date of when the super contribution payment was submitted, Beam’s automated processes will cancel the contribution and refund any incorrect payments received. If this happens, a new super contribution payment will need to be submitted with the correct PRN.

What is a direct to fund payment and how does it work?

A direct to fund payment means that Beam handles the messaging, but you pay the super contributions directly to each super fund. This means that super contribution payments are received faster. This is also called ‘pay fund directly’.

You submit your super contribution payments, and we provide you with the EFT and payment reference details for each fund. You then make individual EFT payments to each fund via your financial institution’s banking facility either manually or using the banking file you can download once your contribution is submitted. Beam distributes your contribution data to each fund in the SuperStream standard within 24 hours of the banking file being submitting.

Who is Precision and why does this name appear on my bank statement?

Precision Administration Services Pty Ltd is the company that own and market the range of Beam products – Beam Super Payments (clearing house), Beam Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting service, and Beam Super Fund Onboarding (SFO).

Because Precision markets Beam, employers that use Beam’s products will see Precision as the business name that’s listed on their bank statements. If you pay by direct debit, the debit will display as ‘Precision CH’ and include the payment reference number in your transaction statement.

How long does it take for super contributions to be paid?

Once the super contribution you submitted and correct matching payment has reconciled, the status in your payroll software will display as ‘Sent to fund.’

Direct Debit

5 business days

EFT and Bpay®

3 business days

Cancelling a submission

If you would like to cancel a submission and your batch is in ‘awaiting payment’ status, you will need to contact your payroll support team to request the batch be cancelled.
