Avoiding super compliance in 2025

A new year brings an opportunity to refresh how your super is being processed. Here’s how you can avoid running into super compliance issues in 2025.

Compliance is changing, faster payments and simpler super is coming

If you haven’t heard, there’s a pretty big change coming to superannuation in Australia. The 25/26 financial year will be the last year of quarterly super payments. From 1 July 2026 super will need to be paid at the same time as payroll.

Check you’re paying the right Super Guarantee rate

Currently the Super Guarantee (SG) rate is 11.5%, but from 1 July 2025 it’s going up to 12%1. The SG rate is the minimum rate of superannuation employers must pay to their employees.

It can get complicated quickly if you’ve got people on different contracts, special conditions or managing before tax contributions for your employees. It’s a good time to review your payroll and make sure you’re not underpaying anyone’s super.

Keep your business details up to date

Payroll software and super payments are connected by data. If the source of information is wrong, so will your super payments. Business address, contact details and ABN should all be checked regularly, making sure that the source data isn’t causing you compliance headaches in the future.

This connected data is going to be a big focus point for payroll software going forward. Payday Super means more super payments than ever before, so no time for mis matched business information in your payroll data batches.

Secure your data

Data breaches continue to be on the rise in 2025. Last year the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) reported that 2024 had the highest amount of reportable data breaches in the last three years2

As we all go more digital, securing your employees payroll data is more important than ever, especially when dealing with payments.

Head into 2025 on the right foot and consider how you store and report your payroll information. Your payroll software should be suitably certified for information security. Look out for ISO/IEC 27001:2022 accreditation or a similar standard of data security to avoid a compliance headache in 2025.

Simplify your super payments

In 2024, $140.8 billion was paid by employers to their employees. It’s a considerable sum of money, and can be a time-consuming task for employers.

Employers rely on clearing house software to report and distribute super payments to their employees’ chosen super funds. Often separate to your payroll software, these portals require you to upload payroll data to calculate your super batch payment for the period.

Once you’ve completed the reporting, you’ll need to download the batch information and re-upload into your accounting software to pay the batch.

But there’s a different way.

Instead of relying on a 3rd party portal, you can report, batch and send payments from your payroll with Beam. Our payroll software partners let you report and batch super payments alongside payroll, without the need to export or re-upload data.
